"HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY"
A simple dinner was held on October 05, 2012 to celebrate our day, the Teachers’ Day. It was an informal gathering of amusement. The dinner was followed by a Karaoke. We all loved it! Since it was also Teacher Rodel’s birthday, he picked up the tab during the Karaoke session. Two of his most trusted students; Yuki and Takashi graced the event.
I was an Elementary pupil when I started answering the very prominent question “What I want to become when I grow up?” To become a teacher was a very common phrase among young people then; and so, I gave no different answer. I guess it wasn’t because all those who gave the same response really wanted to become one but it was because we saw our teachers the most often since we went to school. We admired the display of intelligence and authority. I was inclined to becoming one because of the two main reasons I mentioned. I respected their acumen and I wanted to own the same. I fantasized the expertise in conducting a class in front of 30 students. It was such a POWER to me!
Some years later, I became a TEACHER! Dream came true, I thought. However, I wasn’t teaching the 30 high school students I imagined. Instead, I was a one to one teacher to a Korean citizen who was 2 years older than me, wanting to speak English fluently. It might be different as to the number of students I got to teach, but I was teaching and I loved it. I have been teaching for 9 years now and the AUTHORITY and INTELLIGENCE I dreamed about when I was an Elementary student were hard earned possessions. They do not come in package once you get the degree. I had to work hard for it. I always thought that teachers are in the best position. They need not study for they know everything. It feels like I have to agree and follow the whole thing they ask of me because they are teachers. Nevertheless, it takes long years of everlasting study to be able to demonstrate such INTELLIGENCE and mountains of experience to create the POWER. And with this, I meant power in a noble way.
One thing is certain, the path I am taking as a teacher is not easy. It is an infinite exploration so that I can give the best to each of my students. So, to all my fellow Teachers, be proud for we are contributing the world a piece of what we have acquired by leading the minds of our students which are the fundamental resource for a nation to progress (JFKennedy)
